| I've heard it said that there are Martin people and there are Gibson people. If you were to compare the number of Gibsons vs. the number of Martins featured on my site, you might conclude that I am a Gibson person...and you'd probably be right. I came of guitar-playing age in the 60's and 70's, during a time when Gibson was not known for making great acoustic guitars...at that time the gold standard for acoustic guitars was the Martin guitar. But starting in the early 1990s, Gibson was again (like in the 40s and 50s) making some really exceptional acoustic guitars, under the leadership of master luthier Ren Ferguson. I feel that many guitars currently coming out of the Gibson Custom Shop are as well made, as well finished, and as fantastic sounding as almost any other guitar currently being made (well, there are a few exceptions). The Gibsons have their own distinctive sound...it is a sound which many, many professional musicians prefer. One of the best things about Gibson Flattops is that the really great vintage Gibson slope-shouldered dreadnaughts sound absolutely incredible... and are often considerably cheaper than a comparable vintage Martin. So, if you are a Gibson person, I'm sure you will really enjoy my excellent selection of pre-owned Gibson acoustics. If you are a Martin person, well, you owe it to yourself to buy a fine Gibson Flattop...because it just may change your life! |
