| When I was a teenager in the 60's and 70's, there just weren't as many electric guitars to chose from. But if you wanted the best, there was really only one choice...a Gibson Les Paul. My favorite was the famous "Black Beauty", a black Les Paul Custom with gold hardware...very sweet! Well I bought a brand new one about three years ago (currently for sale on the Solid Body page ...sorry SOLD)...but I got a little surprise...I'm too old and my back is too sore to play a regular solid-body Les Paul! Then I discovered the Gibson Les Paul Florentine Plus...and WOW...I was in love again. These semi-hollow Les Pauls are Custom Shop Models in production only between 1995 and 1996, so they are relatively hard to find. They are not only several pounds lighter than a solid-body LP, the "Plus" models (made with flamed or quilted maple tops) are simply gorgeous and have a phat, resonant sound and great sustain. Think of it as a Les Paul meets an ES-335...perfect for classic rock, blues or jazz. I have also recently discovered that Epiphone made a semi-hollow LP model (called the Les Paul ES) which are even lighter than the Gibson LP Florentines and also have a wonderful resonant tone and great sustain. If you still need to rock, but your back is killing you...try one of these on for size. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE them, and I think you will too!
